Definition

A serious acute respiratory disease caused by a new type of coronavirus infection that has not been detected in humans in the past, mainly due to the recent outbreak of infectious diseases in the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East, it has been named Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.

Cause

Although no clear source and route of infection has been identified, it has been reported that contact with camels in the Middle East is likely to be infected and spread by close contact with humans.

* Close contact : persons who have taken care of the confirmed or suspected patient (including medical personnel and family), and persons who have stayed in the same place (visiting, living together, etc.) while the patient has symptoms

Symptom

They usually have respiratory symptoms such as fever, difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath, and phlegm, and besides, they can show symptoms of indigestion, nausea, vomiting, stomachache and diarrhea.

Diagnosis

A suspected patient can be diagnosed in three cases :

First, signs of fever and acute respiratory syndrome are those who have visited the Middle East within 14 days of travelling to the Middle East or within 14 days of having symptoms of pneumonia or acute respiratory syndrome accompanying the heat.

Second, they had been in the Middle East as employees, patients and visitors within 14 days of experiencing the symptoms of fever and respiratory syndrome.

Third, there are fever or respiratory symptoms, and the patient confirmed with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is in close contact during symptoms.

* Middle East : the Arabian Peninsula and its neighboring countries (Bahrain, Iraq, Iran, Israel's West Bank and Gaza Strip, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen)
